Hello and welcome to the newest SYS monthly- What You Missed In…. where we bring you the finest releases that have graced our ears in the past months that you might not have had time to check out. No fear, See You Slater is here!

Man, that sounded jank. Don’t let me write that again. Moving swiftly on…

HONEYCUB– YOU ARE NOTHING//FFO: 90’s GRUNGE

The band says-

‘You Are Nothing was influenced by the frustrations we experienced growing up in various iterations of this band. From playing to an empty room at a beer festival to being told “you wont make it” by fake friends. It’s sort of a ‘fuck you’ to all of the doubters we’ve come across over the years. It’s our first real statement song that galvanised us as a band to not care what people think of us and to just keep doing our thing.’

Word on the street is they’ll have a new EP out very soon. If it sounds anything like this, I’m game.

MUSH– INVESTMENT FOR LIFE//FFO: …HIPPO CAMPUS HAD THEY LISTENED TO TOO MUCH BRAID

The band says-

It’s true you get old and start to figure out all those past pain points. You start to find hope and love. You’ll be alright.

Yeah, fair enough.

YAWNING– THIS AIN’T IT CHIEF// FFO: ALGERNON CADWALLADER, DOWSING, THE PROMISE RING (ISH)

The band says-

“This Ain’t It Chief” is about how I destroyed a relationship with a woman I loved through constant substance abuse to cope with mental illness. My illness, addiction and self image were isolating and I didn’t realize that my problems affected everyone, especially her.

I mean, shit.

Catharsis is important. And if this song means anything to me, it’s finding that catharsis positive. Also- shout out to the band for being completely honestly with me considering I am, essentially, a stranger on the internet. That’s what I love about this scene.
